From Cruise Port:    Tauranga-Rotorua

This is the ULTIMATE tour for anyone cruising to Tauranga. Do not miss the 2 best destinations the region has to offer!

Rotorua Highlights:

First stop is a visit to Rotorua to see the geothermal highlights at Whakarewarewa, the Living Maori Village for over 800 years:

A 1 hour guided tour will let you experience life in the village - located in an active geothermal valley.

- You will see bubbling mudpools, boiling hotpools and the famous Pohutu Geyser. You'll soon understand why Rotorua is nicknamed 'Sulphur City'!

- Learn how the Maori people have adapted to life in this unique landscape - using nature to help in everyday life. You'll be amazed how useful the hot springs can be!

Time permitting there will also be a 30 minute Maori cultural performance, both entertaining and informative, showcasing the warrior fighting skills, plus traditional Maori dance and songs, you can even join in!

On some days, due to time constraints and availability, we may visit Te Puia instead of Whakarewarewa.

Departing Rotorua we head to Hobbiton to see the enchanting world of JRR Tolkein's imagination - on the Hobbiton Movie Set and farm.

Hobbiton Highlights:

Intricately recreated after being used as a film set for both the Lord of The Rings and The Hobbit trilogies, hidden in the New Zealand farming countryside of the Waikato region, Hobbiton is on everyones bucket list!

On a guided tour you will explore 44 Hobbit holes set across 12 acres of lush pasture and manicured gardens. Since December 2024 you now get to see inside a Hobbit House on the new longer 2.5hour tour - crafted by the team who built the original movie set, the Hobbit House is a highlight of the tour.

- Your guide will provide inside tips about the 2 trilogies and you will get wrapped up in the fascinating stories they tell.

- Make a visit to Bag End, the Party Tree, Gandalf's Cutting, The Mill House and more. For you movie buffs there are recognisable landmarks at every turn!

- Cap off your tour with a complimentary ale, cider or ginger beer in the Green Dragon Inn...where you can sit by the fire, admire the expert craftsmanship and imagine life as a hobbit!

Please note that due to changes in the booking Terms and Conditions at the Hobbiton Movie Set, the Hobbiton Tour charge portion of any tour will not be refunded should the ship cancel its port of call without giving at least 24 hours notice, OR, should the ship change its arrival or departure time meaning the scheduled tour time at Hobbiton is not possible.

Our Booking procedures quote the applicable prices before you commit to a Booking.

    Are entry fees included?

Absolutely, to both Hobbiton and Whakarewarewa Village.

    Is it suitable for children?

Absolutely. Both attractions are very child friendly.

    Is the walking difficult?

Most walkers are usually fine, however it is important to note that Hobbiton has unmade paths and some steep inclines which are not suitable for those with mobility issues.

What if the ship arrival time is later than the tour is due to start?

When a ship is arriving or departing at times that do not suit our normal tour times, then we adjust these times to suit. These adjusted times are shown on your voucher when you make a booking and also on the "prices" tab of the tour details on the web site, if you have created a "my cruise" account.

There is no lunch included in the tour, can I get something to eat?

Yes, we allow some free time for you to buy lunch or maybe a snack at the Green Dragon pub at Hobbiton, depending on the order of the visits.

There are only 2 of us but you require a minimum of 10 for the tour to operate.

Yes, that is correct due to availability of bookings at Hobbiton. We can group smaller numbers together to get to a minimum of 6 people and only then will a tour be confirmed once we have made the Hobbiton bookings which are non refundable.

What happens if our ship arrives late or has to leave port early?

On most tours we can adjust the tour start times to suit such changes, but as we have a fixed time for the tour at Hobbiton, this is not possible as they will not switch tour times as on almost every day they are 100% sold out. Should this happen we will only be able to refund the cost of the tour less the amount for the Hobbiton ticket which they will not refund.

If we have to cancel is a refund available?

We offer refunds on all tours as per our Terms and Conditions which you can find under the More Info menu. However, the Hobbiton Movie Set has imposed new conditions for bookings this season, so if a ship cancels a port of call visit with less than 24 hours notice, the Hobbiton ticket charge is not refundable by them. Shore Trips and Tours will refund the remainder of the tour cost to you.

Due to changes at Hobbiton this season where reservations are not being accepted without pre-payment, we are only able to offer this combination tour TRG16 if we have 6 people booked and if there is a suitable tour time at Hobbiton.

So please send in your booking enquiry, which may be e declined, but we will add you to our waitlist and once we get close to 6 people we will get back in touch with you.

If you are worried about missing out on Hobbiton then we suggest you book a Hobbiton Express tour TRG17 and if the combination tour goes ahead we can swap you over.

Despite the information being given out by the cruise lines, the Hobbiton Movie set location is open for business as usual, its just that the cruise lines will not accept the new T&C's Hobbiton now impose.
